CTLE Cultural Arts Workshops are a component of the JOURNEY Arts in Education program. JOURNEY partner school districts may send an unlimited number of teachers to these workshops dependent upon availability. *
These workshops are opportunities for teachers to expand knowledge and gain valuable teaching ideas and techniques through cultural arts professional development programs.
The Huntington Arts Council is a certified sponsor for NYSED for Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE). Five courses are being offered this year, three hours each, a total of 15 CTLE hours, including some Language Acquisition hours.

CTLE workshop schedule for Fall 2026
This series is part of the JOURNEY Arts in Education program, in partnership with these school districts: Cold Spring Harbor, Commack, Harborfields, Huntington, Kings Park CSD, Northport/East Northport, Plainview/Old Bethpage, South Huntington and Westbury.

Emphasis on Cultural Identity & Self-Expression
through Linoleum Cutting with Manuel Macarrulla
This in-person, hands-on workshop explores how linoleum cutting can be used to support student identity, self-expression, and cultural pride—particularly for English as a New Language (ENL) learners. Educators will engage in culturally responsive practices and learn how to integrate visual storytelling into their curriculum to foster inclusion and strengthen family and community engagement

Bead Painting with Oluwaseyi "Shayee" Awoyomi
Join Nigerian artist Oluwaseyi “Shayee” Awoyomi for a hands-on workshop exploring the cultural richness of Yoruba bead painting through storytelling and design. This CTLE-eligible session supports the Language Acquisition Requirement, emphasizing culturally responsive teaching, family engagement, and strategies for ELLs/MLLs

Rhythm Kings – “Al Andalusia to Dizzy” with Napoleon Revels-Bey
This CTLE workshop in partnership with Nassau Performing Arts. Led by acclaimed teaching artist Napoleon Revels-Bey, this dynamic session explores the global roots of jazz and the power of rhythm to support language acquisition, academic engagement, and culturally responsive teaching for ENL/ELL students.

Performing Arts Advocacy – Caribbean Identity in Motion Led by Zaman
Join Guyanese-born performing artist and human rights activist Zaman for a dynamic CTLE workshop exploring Caribbean identity through dance and music. Educators will engage in movement practices rooted in Bollywood, Kathak, and Chutney styles while gaining inclusive, arts-based strategies to support multilingual learners and affirm student identities across disciplines.

Clay Connections: Culturally Responsive Ceramics for the Classroom
Join ceramic artist Gina Mars for a dynamic hands-on workshop exploring Asian-inspired teapots and culturally grounded sculptural projects for grades 1–8. This session emphasizes foundational and advanced hand-building techniques while supporting English Language Learners through visual and kinesthetic instruction. Aligned with NYS Learning Standards the workshop highlights how ceramics can build inclusive classrooms and foster stronger home-school connections.

Improvisation- YES! The Art of Risk! (11/2/20- Dr. Thomas Manuel) – This presenter was dynamic and personable and had so many useful things that could be applied to any area of discipline. At first I thought it was going to be geared more towards music teachers but in fact it transcended all subject matter and the ideas and content could be applicable in your own personal life as well as different subject matters whatever one may teach.
