New Grants for the Arts Coordinator at
Huntington Arts Council

Huntington, NY, 5 February 2010-The Huntington Arts Council is pleased to welcome Melissa Mickens to the Grants for the Arts Program. This program includes administering both the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Grants and the JPMorgan Chase Regrants for Artists and Arts Organizations. These two funding opportunities are available to artists and not-for-profit arts organizations throughout the entire island.

As the new Grants for the Arts Coordinator, Ms. Mickens brings her professional experiences with nonprofit organizations such as the Romare Bearden Foundation, Gen Art and the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, along with marketing expertise in the Architecture/Design industries. In 2008, she completed a Master's program at Pratt Institute in Arts and Cultural Management which focused on community-based cultural planning.

Throughout February, Ms. Mickens is conducting a series of workshops from Riverhead to Jericho on the JPMorgan Chase Regrant Awards, in addition to starting preparations for the 2011 NYSCA program. Complete details are available in the "Programs" section of www.huntingtonarts.org.

Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Huntington Arts Council has been designated a "Primary Institution" by the New York State Council on the Arts, a title meaning "vital to the cultural life of New York State." The Council is the official arts coordinating agency for the Town of Huntington, and serves as the primary regranting agency on Long Island for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in addition to its services to over 600 member cultural organizations and individual artist members.
