Welcome Spring with 9th Annual Tulip Festival

HUNTINGTON, NY, 27 April 2009 - The Town of Huntington and Councilman Mark Cuthbertson invite one and all to welcome spring at the 9th Annual Tulip Festival in Heckscher Park in Huntington Village this coming weekend on Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The following free performances are presented by the Huntington Arts Council on the Chapin Rainbow Stage:

Starting at noon, "Popping Up Puppets!" from Janice Buckner is a joyful mix of song, storytelling and signing. Janice is considered one of the top children's performing artists in the country. She is a noted songwriter, radio host and the producer of 10 award-winning CDs. Her precocious puppets guarantee audience participation.

The Bari Koral Family Rock Band takes the stage at 1:15 with a high-energy show with kid-friendly lyrics about cars, waves, airplanes, and farms. But the sound is totally rock, and Bari Koral has been called "Sheryl Crow for kids." They will lead the historic Children's Parade at 2:45 p.m.

Then, starting at 3 p.m., From Stage to Screen presents Snow White Goes West, set during the California Gold Rush. This kid-friendly, tongue-in-cheek retelling of the timeless classic pits the hapless heroine against an ill-tempered saloon hall owner named Queenie and her assistant Sneaky Sam. In true fairy tale fashion, all ends well, thanks to handsome Marshall Joe Prince and the Seven prospecting Dwarf Brothers. Songs include "Gold in California,"  "Comin Home,"  "An Apple A Day" and "Snow White."

Tulip Festival Art Contest winners' work (Town of Huntington students in grades 3-8) will be on exhibit near the Chapin Rainbow Stage.
