Local Target Stores Support Huntington Arts Council with
Grant to Arts-in-Education Program

Huntington, NY, 2 February 2009 - The local Target stores have again endorsed the work of the Huntington Arts Council by making a grant of $1,500 for the Council's Journey Arts-in-Education program for 2009. The Arts Council provides teaching artists and Discovery Chests as part this program of "multi-cultural journeys." The program reaches over 40,000 students from ages 5 to 18.

"This grant will help us maintain the quality of these invaluable programs," stated Huntington Arts Council Executive Director Diana J. Cherryholmes, "and we appreciate the efforts of Target to ensure the their survival in these difficult economic times."

Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Council's programs reach over 750,000 Long Island residents, and it serves the entire region with its cultural listings at www.huntingtonarts.org. The Council is the official arts coordinating agency for the Town of Huntington, and serves as the primary regranting agency in Suffolk County for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in addition to its services to over 600 member cultural organizations and individual artist members.
