One-on-One Consultations for Visual Artists
Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 6-9 p.m.
Have a new body of work no one has seen? Need commentary on your artist website or artist statement? Ready for some feedback? Come to the Huntington Art Council's One-on-One Consultation Event for individual, 20-minute meetings with local artists and NYFA MARK alumna Linda Lee Nicholas and Naomi Grossman. Get practical and professional advice in person from one or both consultants. Each appointment is $10, with a two-appointment limit. The opportunity to share your work will be provided.
Linda Lee Nicholas and Naomi Grossman (bios below) are alumna of the MARK Program, the New York Foundation for the Arts' (NYFA) competitive statewide six-month program for visual artists focusing on the professional side of their creative practices. Nicholas and Grossman have also completed an intensive training program designed to prepare MARK alumni to conduct one-on-one consultations for visual artists.
Artist Bios
Linda Lee Nicholas
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Linda Lee Nicholas' work has been exhibited recently at the Roberson Museum of Art, Binghamton, New York. She has had 4 solo shows in the last year including Veiled Reality about Global Warming at the Stambaugh Gallery at Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio. Her newest work, inspired by time spent in a studio in the woods at I-Park Artist's Enclave in East Haddam, was included in her recent exhibition in Chelsea at The Blank Space Gallery. In 2008, The Bad Seed, a large oil painting, was featured in Swiss Air In-flight Magazine. Linda has recently participated in group shows at James Cohan, Sikkema Jenkins, Art Gotham, Visual Arts Gallery, Chelsea and Korus House, the Korean Embassy, Washington, DC. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Monmouth Museum, Lindcroft, NJ and the Everhart Museum, Scranton, PA. Gallery owner, Richard Tempiero has included Linda Lee in Sideshow's popular January show for the last 5 years. In October of 2006, Linda Lee was awarded first place in the NEPA Art Biennial. She is currently in the studio program at Chashama, a non-profit arts organization, NYC. Upcoming exhibitions include participation at the University of Southern Oregon's Schneider Museum, in conjunction with the 91st annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a one-person show at the Pelavin Gallery in NYC. Linda Lee Nicholas, a renowned Hair and Makeup artist represented in the US and Europe, has worked on advertisements, magazines, film and commercials. You can see her work at http://lindaleenyc.com/
Naomi Grossman
Naomi Grossman is a mixed media artist working primarily in wire, words and paper. As a practicing artist she has her studio in Long Island City. Recent exhibits include a one-person show at the Queens College Art Center, the Patchogue Biennial, the Zimmerli Art Museum (Rutgers University), UBS Gallery (NYC), the Theresa Mahoney Gallery (College of St Elizabeth, NJ), WIRED at the Ernest Rubenstein Gallery (Lower East Side, NYC) and a one-person show and a visiting artist at the Phillips Museum (Franklin & Marshall College, PA). She has done site-specific installations in gallery settings. Grossman has an upcoming one-person exhibit at the Freyberger Museum (Penn State University). Recent residencies include the Ragdale Foundation and the Hambidge Center for the Arts; she has been invited to Panama for a future residency. She was awarded best in show at the Parrish Art Museum, awarded a MARK Grant and won numerous SOS grants from NYFA. Her work is in the Arroyo literary magazine's Spring 2010 issue as their featured artist. She has been trained as a NYFA MARK consultant and her work is in permanent public and private collections. She has expertise on managing a website, writing artist statements, putting together work samples and finding sites for showing work. Her website is www.naomigrossman.com. Born in Brooklyn, Grossman attended Queens College and NYU.

All appointments are $10 for 20 minutes and there is a 2-appointment limit. (Payment is cash or check only.) Two weeks prior to the event you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
