A Brief History

In 1966 a great tradition was born in the town of Huntington: the Summer Arts Festival held its first concert on the steps of the Hecksher Museum. Since that time millions of Huntington residents have enjoyed concerts in the park, now expanded to a full season of performances by local and nationally known artists on the modernized Chapin Rainbow Stage.

Since 1979, the Chapin Rainbow Stage has provided a wonderful summer site for excellent presentations by Huntington's local arts organizations. With the steady acquisition of more sophisticated lighting and sound equipment, plus backstage support facilities, the theatre has come to attract major professional entertainers, adding still another dimension of stature.

The Huntington Arts Council is proud to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Summer Arts Festival. This tradition has flourished from year to year and each season has surpassed the last in the quality and variety of the programs. From Broadway shows to local musicians, each concert attracts a wide and appreciative audience. Summer in Huntington would not be complete without the Summer Arts Festival.
