The Huntington Arts Council is a not for profit community arts agency, founded in 1963. The Council serves a dual mission – providing services for member arts organizations and making the arts accessible to over 750,000 residents of Long Island. The Council’s programs and services include an annual summer festival, arts education programs, regional regranting, exhibition program with two galleries, arts networking meetings, technical assistance and publications.
Job Description
The Huntington Arts Council is seeking a dynamic and innovative Program Director. The Program Director is responsible for managing Council presenting programs. Primary responsibilities include producing the Huntington Summer Arts Festival, an outdoor festival featuring over 50 nightly free performances by regional and national artists. This position also supervises all facility use including community celebrations and rentals. The Program Director reports to the Executive Director:
Responsibilities Include:
- Reviewing & booking talent and negotiating (over 50) contracts in coordination with the Executive Director;
- Hiring, supervising, professionally developing and evaluating technical crew volunteers and interns.
- Developing new program initiatives and collaborations
- Creating and tracking budgets.
- Representing HAC at meetings, conferences, public relations activities and marketing events as needed.
- Participating in the creation and maintenance of promotional materials such as Arts Cultural News, website content and program-related brochures and flyers.
- Supervising the compilation of program statistics and financial data on programs.
- Participating in the grant writing proposals and reports.
- Coordinating Chapin Rainbow Stage facility use, overseeing rentals, and equipment and maintenance.
- Provides leadership in a collaborative work environment.
- Identify and engage prospective audiences and visitors; and collaborate with regional organizations and artists.
- Work with other arts and cultural organizations to develop and promote joint programs.
- Assist local groups or individuals with programming concepts.
Qualifications
- Innovative, self-motivated and detail-oriented with a strong desire to “push-the-envelope” and think beyond traditional programming and community relations.
- Excellent organizational skills; able to handle heavy paper flow and meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with staff supervision and knowledge of research and evaluation.
- Minimum of two years in performing arts administration or programming or comparable experience
- Excellent negotiating skills
- Experience working with public officials and volunteers
- Computer literacy
- Bachelor’s degree
- Technical Theatre knowledge a plus
