Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
Since it was founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council has inspired and aided in the growth of hundreds of art organizations and individual artists now flourishing in Suffolk County. The Huntington Arts Council celebrates the diversity of the County’s cultural resources through sponsored activities, programs and publications that advocate cultural awareness and education.
The Huntington Arts Council is the official arts coordinating agency of the Town of Huntington and serves as the primary regranting agency in Suffolk County for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). It nurtures the professional development of artists and offers artistic programs and services to more than 250 member cultural organizations and individual artist members, encompassing the broad spectrum of arts disciplines. The Arts Council also advances Huntington’s position as the cultural center of Long Island and works to enrich the social and economic life of the community.
HAC Journey Program brings a multi-cultural dimension to arts-in-education. The goal is to promote the understanding and appreciation of diversity through the performing and visual arts. Journey currently serves over 40,000 students from K-12 in eight partner school districts. It reaches the classroom through Cultural Arts Workshops for Teachers, Artists Visits and Discovery Chests of cultural artifacts.
Huntington Summer Arts Festival 42nd Anniversary, the premier free performance series on Long Island features more than 50 dance, musical, and theatrical performances on the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park each year. The Festival spotlights major national, international and local artists and attracts more than 90,000 visitors each year.
Grants for the Arts: Decentralization and JPMorgan Chase regrant programs serve as vital funding conduits channeling more than $120,000 for arts organizations and individual artists each year. The Huntington Arts Council also provides technical assistance to arts organizations and individual artists through funding workshops and training seminars.
Art -trium: Art in the Atrium and Main Street Petite Gallery offer two opportunities for Huntington Arts Council member artists to exhibit their paintings, photography, sculpture and mixed media works to the community. Gallery receptions at every show offer gallery talks and a chance to meet exhibiting artists. Art-trium: Art in the Atrium, HAC’s satellite exhibit space, is located at 25 Melville Park Road in Melville, convenient to the business community, and the newly opened Main Street Petite Gallery is located at 213 Main Street in Huntington Village (in front of the Huntington Arts Council office).
Huntington Arts Council Cultural News! The quarterly cultural calendar produced by HAC is mailed to more than 92,000 homes and businesses and promotes the programs & events of more than 100 member arts organizations.
